What to Love

  • Refined elegance in architecture and lifestyle.
  • Proximity to the theater for cultural excursions.
  • Breathtaking waterfront views and sought-after real estate.

Local Lifestyle

The Waterfront neighborhood is quite charming and tranquil. With the calming sound of the harbor, you’ll enjoy afternoons spent watching the boats come in and out of the area. Many residents own boats and dock them at the marina. Still, the area is quiet, thanks in part to the parks and outdoor art galleries that help to shield the area from the bustle of the downtown area.

Also unique is the way people live in the Waterfront area. There's no true center to the community, which helps residents feel like they live throughout it – and are valued members of the neighborhood as well. While there’s new construction here, many live in renovated and reclaimed wharf buildings with original wooden beams. This, too, creates the sense that those living here are in their own area of Boston.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

True to its harborside location, the Waterfront is home to numerous seafood locations. One of the best is James Hook & Co, a local landmark established in 1925 and serving the freshest lobster in the area. And while that location is traditional, Rowes Wharf Sea Grille offers some of the best, more modern seafood dishes. It's also fabulous for breakfast.

For those exploring the area's architecture, The Palm is stunning with its marble columns and high ceilings. It's the perfect place for a steak dinner, too. Yet another world-class restaurant is Smith & Wollensky, a beloved location for premium seafood and dry-aged steak.

A few shops dot the neighborhood, including One Seaport, a shopping center with name-brand retailers. The Waterfront is also nearby local to the Institute of Contemporary Art.

Things to Do

There are lots to do here, including enjoying the harbor itself. The Rose Kennedy Greenway is a fabulous public park that offers various festivals and musical performances during the summer months. The Boston Harborwalk is a 43-mile linear park along the shoreline providing direct access to the Waterfront neighborhood. It’s a public walkway that provides the best place to walk, jog, or bike along the water itself. The path is made up of weather planks that run between the buildings and the piers, creating an old-world feel.

Also, the Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park is in this area. It’s a wonderful place for a relaxing walk or a picnic on a warm summer day.

Schools

The Boston Public Schools serve residents of the Waterfront community. Few schools are located within the community itself, but there are ample nearby options. Eliot School and James F. Condon School are public school options here. Private schools in the area include Commonwealth School and Boston University Academy, both high schools.
